The Luther group is designed for children aged 7 to 8, a critical time in their cognitive, emotional, and social development. In this year group, children experience a shift towards more formal academic learning while continuing to explore the world around them through creativity, inquiry-based learning, and group collaboration.The Luther aims to foster independence in both academic and social contexts, while also emphasizing problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-expression.
We have named our Grade 3 group after Martin Luther King Jr. to reflect our dedication to instilling values of equality, justice, and courage in our students. This level embodies the ideals of leadership, empathy, and perseverance, inspiring children to advocate for what is right while treating others with respect and dignity.
Children arrive, unpack, and begin their morning with calm activities. Journaling, reading, or quiet maths warm-ups help them settle into focus.
Breakfast is shared as a class community. Children take responsibility for serving themselves, practise table manners, and build social connections with friends.
The day begins with literacy. Children strengthen reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills. They might analyse short texts, write descriptive paragraphs, or practise spelling patterns. Lessons encourage fluency, creativity, and clear expression.
A short pause to reset and prepare for maths.
Maths lessons focus on developing fluency and problem-solving skills. Topics may include multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry. Children are encouraged to explain their reasoning and apply maths to real-life challenges.
A chance to stretch and prepare for the next academic block.
Science lessons are hands-on and inquiry-based. Children conduct experiments, observe nature, and record results. They begin to move beyond simple observation into testing, reasoning, and drawing conclusions.
A balanced lunch provides both energy and a time for social growth. Meals build responsibility, independence, and community as children share and converse.
Social Studies opens the world to children. Through history, geography, and community projects, they explore people, places, and cultures. Group projects and discussions encourage teamwork, empathy, and critical thinking
A short reset to prepare for physical activity.
Children channel energy into movement and sport. PE lessons focus on coordination, stamina, and teamwork — encouraging resilience and a healthy, active lifestyle.
Time to pause, stretch, and prepare for the last lesson of the day.
Creativity flourishes in Arts. Children explore visual arts, drama, and music, giving them freedom to express themselves while developing technique and confidence. Projects often link to themes across the curriculum.
The day ends with reflection and calm preparation for home. Children share highlights, celebrate progress, and close the day on a positive note.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and civil rights leader who is best known for his role in advancing civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.
